What do you do if your baby won't eat?

My dear daughter (DD) has not been a big fan of eating since she was born. It's always been a struggle. We are always tip toeing around on eggshells trying not to draw any attention to ourselves when she eats and praying that she doesn't stop eating... because once she stops she will not start again even if she is still hungry. The rare occasions she takes a bottle and drinks the whole thing without stopping, are blessings from heaven. I worry constantly that she is not getting enough nutrition. The doctors assure me though, that she is okay as long as she has 3 wet diapers a day, she is getting enough liquid and she is not dehydrated. We just will keep trying and waiting for that glorious 12 months when we can really try other things and stop with the formula.  Until then here are a few things we have tried that has helped her take the bottle on occasion.
  1. We lay her down on her favorite pillow, you can find one here and then she would tilt her head to the side and take the bottle.
  2. Let her suck on her Binky first for a while and then switch it quickly with the bottle before she knows the difference.
  3. Thicken the formula with cereal or rice and feed it with a spoon ( this is for 4 months and above)
  4. Standing with her while she is fed used to help her eat so that she was moving.
  5. We have also tried feeding it to her in a sippy cup instead, like this one here that is spill proof, but that hasn't worked as often.
Good Luck!

Welcome!

Welcome! I’ll make this short. I’m a new Mom, but everyone seems to know that by just looking at me. There are literally thousands of books out there about parenting and I’ve read a my fair share.  People mostly are just trying to help. But after the 5th or 6th book I realized something. You will know the best thing to do for your kid because no one knows your kid better then you. Whether it’s breast or bottle; sleep training or rocking your kid to bed every night like I do. Trust yourself and trust that your kid will show you what is going to work for them. I’d love to offer tips and things that I have found worked for me on here for you other new Mom’s! I just want to share my experience and hopefully it can help in some way.

What are the best Bibs?

My DD is now 18 months old. I can't believe how quickly and, at the same time, how slowly the time has gone. She is finally starting to eat really food. Most kids start eating food around 6 months but my DD refused to even try until 12 months. Since then, though, the majority of the foods that go in her mouth come right back out again. Thus it is important to have the best types of bibs on hand to make sure we don't go through 5 different outfits a day and have to do a load of baby clothes every night. We started off by using the fabric bibs. I figured those where the best because that's the kind I had been given by friends and family at my baby shower.  And, heck, I'm a new Mom how was I supposed to know any better. Well now I do know better. Fabric bibs are no longer my go to. They seem to just absorb all the food that gets on them and no matter how many times you wash them the smell lingers. And they stains are resilient. By 12 months of age every bib we had was co...
